History
The notoriety of Roncegno began back in 1856 when a local farmer noticed a reddish-coloured spring among the gorges of the Valle del Diavolo, on the slopes of Mount Tesobo. This was the discovery of the prodigious thermal water still used today, whose beneficial effects led to the opening of the Bagni di Roncegno and brought fame to the small village.
At the turn of the century, investments by the Waiz family ushered in a period of splendour and the new Palace Hotel became a landmark in Europe for many famous faces of the time, from Eleonora Duse to the Habsburg princes.
The world wars brought a phase of decline, interrupted in the late 1980s by the coincidental meeting of two anthroposophical doctors and two entrepreneurs from Lombardy. Their intuition led to the birth of Casa Raphael, now a place of care and healing, with around 15,000 visitors annually.
